Re: Zaphod's Macaroni Artwork

THE AGENT SERIES: A SUPER SMASH BROS PRODUCTION

Agent was a series of "movies" consisting entirely of Brawl replays I made with some friends from late 2008 to late 2010. The idea was to take a series of entertaining or ludicrous fights and apply a basic plot to it, starring Snake as the nameless Agent who works for the accordingly titled Agency and is tasked with the completion of top secret missions. Over time the bare bones plot evolved into full-blown Agent lore and the choreography of each "scene" became more carefully crafted, and by the end of 2010 we had 15 installments, each more ridiculous than the last. Unlike most things I thought were funny around that time, I think it still holds up pretty well for what it was, so I thought I'd share a breakdown of each film's plot as I wrote them in Dec 2010, along with some additional points of interest.

AGENT

"The Agency sends their best Agent on a mission to stop Mr. Die, a psychotic sorcerer planning to unleash an ancient demon on the world."

This was by far the least developed of the movies, with only 6 "scenes" and a minimal plot, but it basically laid the foundation of what was to come and introduced several of the franchise's key players: Agent, the disgruntled scientist Monty(Wario), good-willed but temperamental ally Ninja(Lucario), Hairy(Wolf) the werewolf, and Mr. Die(Ganondorf), one of Agent's most dangerous nemeses. After some battles and some cheesy special effects(such as Ganon deflecting a missile off his sword taunt), Agent stopped the big bad from unleashing the demon Larcramosa by blowing up a portal(Final Destination) with smart bombs.

AGENT: THE SEQUEL (a running joke was that the series would have an inconsistent naming scheme; some would have numbers, other not, etc etc)

"Agent is once again called into action when a deranged Swordsman reveals his plot to revive Mr. Die and reopen the Portal. A mysterious Ninja aids Agent on his quest, but can he act quickly enough to stop the plan?"

Again, aside from the brief Ninja subplot(in which he joins Agent and apparently dies in the next scene), not much goes on in this one until the end. Swordsman(Ike) succeeds in bringing back Mr. Die(who promptly kills him in return), but Agent traps him underground. The last scene reveals that Mr. Die was able to reopen the Portal nonetheless, and Larcramosa(Bowser) is revealed.

AGENT: INVASION

"The demon Larcramosa begins his assault on Earth, sending the Agency into a panic. Agent realizes the only way to stop Larcramosa is to attack Planet Marlose, but Mr. Die and a plethora of new challenges block his progress."

The process of making this third movie was a lot more deliberate. It introduced a new comic-relief character and rival for Agent, Jock(Sonic), but overall had a slightly more serious tone than the first two. Eventually, Agent stowed away on Mr. Die's newly-build spacecraft(Lylat Cruise), which was headed for Larcramosa's home planet Marlose. Jock tried to follow him, but fell off the vessel somewhere between dimensions. The ship crashlanded, Agent killed Hairy and Mr. Die, and he confronted Larcramosa, but was unable to defeat him and fled into the planet's underground, leaving us with a cliffhanger ending.

AGENT 4

"Agent, having barely escaped an encounter with Larcramosa, searches Planet Marlose for a way to defeat his demonic enemy. Meanwhile, Agent's new rival, Jock, wanders through dimensions."

Most of this one was split between Agent dealing with the planet's variety of hooligans who make their home in the caves, and Jock teaming up with some random angel(Pit) and trashing a bunch of alternate dimensions and their residents. They all came together in the planet's core(Norfair), where a Demon Knight(Meta Knight) killed Pit and seemed to kill Jock as well. Agent defeated the Knight, but was ambushed by Larcramosa and once again proved unable to win. A short while later they had a rematch and Agent won out by using his Final Smash for the first(and only) time in the series.

This was sort of a turning point because Larcramosa was up until now the biggest of the big bads, and so a new chapter in the series began. It took on more of an episodic format after this and began to take itself less and less seriously, in part because I introduced another friend into the mix(it had only been me and Kilgazor so far) who had some creative ideas, so say the least.

AGENT 5

"When a warrior called Julio and his wife Julia arrange an army of vicious monkey men to conquer the world, Agent must work quickly to discover the fiend's lair."

Yeah. Obviously any attempt at real drama went out the window on this one, but ironically it was probably the most solid so far purely from a storytelling standpoint. Sure, Julio and Julia(Link and Peach) had no real motive or development other than world domination, but at least Agent actually had to ask around to find out where they were located this time. He ends up on a wild goose chase, fighting monkey men(Diddy Kongs) all the way, to find a man named Volvo(Mario), who supposedly has information on the deadly couple's HQ. Agent coerces Volvo into telling him by breaking his house down(it's Luigi's Mansion) and then goes on to defeat them in their base of operations. There, he discovers the true Mastermind(Jigglypuff in a hat), who he easily overpowers and snaps his... neck? I guess?

AGENT: DIMENSIONS

"A massive army of interdimensional soldiers has arrived through a rift, and Agent is charged with the task of infiltrating their mighty fleet and saving the world yet again."

Agent 6 wasn't quite as moronic as its predecessor. In fact, it might have been pretty intense had 99% of the villains not been Mr. Game and Watch, with different colors to show rank. Greens were foot soldiers, Yellows were gunmen/assassins, Blues were suicide bombers, and Blacks were elites. Red was reserved for their General and the big bad of this installment. Oh, and that other 1%? Jock, who inexplicably survived and managed to return home from Planet Marlose.

AGENT: SEIGE

"Agent is asked to assist an ancient tribe of warriors when they are attacked by merciless robots. Unfortunately, he'll run into trouble convincing the knight's he's on their side."

Right off the bat, Agent is captured by "The Hunter"(Samus) and imprisoned in the robots' fortress. He manages to escape from his guards(ROBs) and heads to the Knights'(Meta Knights) castle, where he is attacked by confused guards who now believe he is on the robots' side. Even the King(white Meta Knight) doesn't trust him for whatever bullshit reason, we needed an excuse for more action. Anyway, the King's ego gets the better of him and he heads to the robot fortress where he is corrupted and brainwashed by radiation from The Hive(literally just a custom stage built to look like a robotic eye). Agent soon follows and has no choice but to kill the King and ultimately blows the Hive to smithereens.

AGENT 8: RETURN TO MARLOSE

"Information reaches the Agency that Larcramosa's brother, Larcovax, is planning an attack on Earth. Agent is sent to Marlose to exterminate him, even as Jock stows away on an Agency vessel."

This was by far the longest one yet at 27 scenes, but the vast majority of this was filler. Early on, Agent unknowingly fights Larcovax(Kirby) and is ruthlessly beaten, only to realize Jock followed him there shortly afterward. Jock is quickly put in his place, once again seemingly lost to this alien planet. Much of the movie from here on out is Agent wandering around and experiencing close call after close call with the planet's colorful host of characters, which includes Yoshis who force him to fight an ex-colleague in a death ring for some reason. Eventually, Agent finds Larcovax again and does battle with the fiend in a grueling finale.

AGENT 9

"A simple trip to do his laundry lands Agent in a surreal elevator with a boy who consults a snake in everything he does. Agent sets out to discover the elevator's mystery while facing every challenge it throws at him."

The actual definition of filler, this one is exactly what it sounds like. Agent gets sucked into a laundry machine and is dropped off in a different dimension each time the elevator(Warioware) reaches a new floor. In the end, the boy(Lucas) is killed by the snake to achieve a new form, which is, believe it or not, another Bowser.

AGENT: FAMILY FEUD

"When the Agency's chief is assassinated, Agent discovers that Ninja has a brother with tremendous dark powers. He and Ninja must team up again to stop this new threat."

So suddenly, after 8 movies, Ninja is alive. Not only that, but he has an evil twin called Ajnin(palette-swapped Lucario), who has hired an assassin who goes by Felcon(Falco) to take down the Agency starting with its chief(Olimar). Naturally, Agent ain't havin' that shit, but he can't beat Ajnin on his own. He recruits a young boy, Kidman(Ness), after being launched into an entirely different city by his enemy. The two train and then set sail for home, but when Kidman is injured Agent stops to seek help at an island populated by absurdly useless Yoshis. This detour gets them both kidnapped by Felcon, and Ajnin subsequently kills Kidman. Ninja, who took his sweet time getting there, finally arrives and explains everything to Agent, and the two manage to combine their essences(yes, it's exactly like Dragonball Z) to destroy Ajnin once and for all.

AGENT 11: MONTY'S REVENGE

"Monty, the insane scientist who formerly worked under Mr. Die, has hired a group of rejected inventors and astronauts to capture Agent. After a brawl with Agent, the clueless Jock is kidnapped instead."

If Ninja's return was far fetched, Monty's is a goddamn miracle. Agent doesn't realize he's back at first, however. All he knows is that a bunch of Olimars are invading his house and he just caught Jock trying to buy steroids. At this inopportune moment, more of Monty's minions attack and in all the chaos end up taking Jock hostage rather than the intended target. When the minions attack the Agency itself, Agent manages to turn the tables and uncover Monty's agenda from a captured minion(by waterboarding him). He and another agent head to the base, but his backup is soon killed. In a moment of desperation, Agent frees Jock and they join forces to take down Monty.

AGENT: NIGHTMARE

"Julio and his army of monkey men have returned, seeking to avenge Julia. The situation only worsens when an old nemesis returns, and Agent must fend off the forces of both villains."

After several sightings of monkey men, Agent grows suspicious that Julio has returned and goes to interrogate Volvo. He fails to get any answers when Volvo is taken by a monkey man, so heads to a mountaintop to meditate, but instead finds a cavern full of hostile eskimos(Ice Climbers) performing some sort of ritual. As it turns out, they were resurrecting Mr. Die himself, once again proving that no one ever actually stays dead in this series. Agent receives a long-overdue pummeling from his old enemy and returns to Volvo's house, determined to find Julio. Unfortunately, a decoy Volvo(Wario) had been planted already, and he kidnaps Agent and takes him to Julio's base. Agent easily escapes confinement and defeats Julio again, but Mr. Die has arrived seeking to claim the base for himself. Agent destroys the main generator to prevent this, but Mr. Die has planned ahead and escapes via helicopter, leaving Agent for dead in a facility set for destruction.

AGENT: THE CLOUD FORTRESS

"Agent awakes on a chunk of rock high above the ground, where he meets an eccentric royal family who has a history with Mr. Die. When the sorcerer arrives to claim the castle, Agent will have to defend it alongside new allies."

Still stuck on the roof of the exploding base, Agent is greeted by a mysterious Challenger(Dark Meta Knight), who swiftly knocks him out and whisks him away to the Cloud Fortress. Here, Agent meets an odd array of royal Luigis, including a dancing janitor(who was actually seen briefly in Agent 5), a fashion designer, a wrestling champion, and a plumber. Challenger explains that Mr. Die once owned this place, but was forced out by the royal family for his evil deeds. Since then, they've had very little contact with the outside world to keep their location a secret. Agent soon meets the rather worse-for-wear King and Queen(King Dedede and Mario) as well as a surprisingly reasonable Prince(also Luigi) and Jigz(Jigglypuff), who actually just ends up being Jock in disguise. As it turns out, the King and Queen gave themselves up to Mr. Die and he is already making his way there. Agent kills them both and has to deal with an infuriated Challenger while the Prince narrowly avoids Mr. Die. The three ultimately join forces to defeat the villain.

AGENT 14: SELLING OUT

"When a Traitor within the Agency sells it to Monty, Agent is sent on several ludicrous missions. Infuriated, he quits illegally and flees to Italy."

Exactly what it says on the tin. Agent begins working in an Italian bistro(Delfino Plaza) but becomes fed up with his boss and decides to head back to America to set things right. He must then infiltrate his former base and plant a recording device in Monty's office in order to expose him to the authorities as a fraud. But Agent isn't done yet. He visits Monty in prison to obtain information on the Traitor(palette-swapped Snake), but Monty doesn't seem to know much. Once again, Agent consults Volvo for his connections, and discovers that the Traitor frequents the racetrack(Mario Circuit). The two do battle, and Agent barely wins, but in the final scene Traitor is seen breaking out of jail.

AGENT: RIVALRY

"Traitor initiates a jailbreak, which sends the city into chaos. As the Agency attempts to round up the escaped prisoners, Agent discovers the true extent of Traitor's plans - and realizes the entire Agency is at stake."

Most of this final movie revolves around Agent tracking down the escaped convicts, who include a Pokemon murderer(Olimar), Jock's drug supplier(yet another Bowser), and a mercenary called Blackfire(Capt Falcon). Meanwhile, Traitor uses the outbreak as a diversion to sneak back into the Agency. Agent eventually realizes what's going on and returns just in time to see Traitor rigging the Agency's generator core to explode. The two battle it out, and Agent escapes just before the entire Agency goes up in flames. With nowhere else to go, Agent returns home, only to find that Ninja is awaiting him with grave news.

...Which we never get to hear, sadly. Because that's where it ended. Actually that's not true. We got more done on Agent 16 than I thought.

AGENT 16 (as of yet unfinished and untitled)

Ninja's news is that Monty is planning to release Mr. Die from his prison in the Cloud Fortress. Agent and his ally arrive just in time to apprehend Monty alongside Challenger, but the fiend escapes further into the fortress. On the way to confront him, Challenger decides to go and guard Mr. Die's containment area and Ninja is forced to fend off haywire robotic guards(ROBs), leaving Agent to confront Monty alone. Once again he escapes, this time by gravely injuring the Prince as a distraction. He soon locates the containment area, easily subdues Challenger, and frees Mr. Die with, naturally, a massive fart. Challenger escapes to warn the Prince, and finds that Jock has arrived as well.

And that's actually as far as we got for real.
